Importing Resources and Services (Magic xpi 3.x)

Magic xpi enables you to import resources and services that you previously created and saved. There are two different ways of executing the importation. You can either overwrite the existing content contained in the Resource Repository or in the Service Repository, or you can append selected resources or services to these repositories.

To overwrite a resource or a service:

  1. In the Resource Repository or Service Repository main configuration windows, click Load. Either the Load Resources or the Load Services dialog box opens.

  2. In the Load Preferences drop-down list, select Overwrite.

  1. In the Load Resources/Load Services dialog box, click next to the File Name field to select the required resource or service XML file. Alternatively, you can enter the resource or service XML file manually.

  1. After you select the XML, click OK in the Load Resources/Load Services dialog box. This overwrites the current resource settings with those contained in the new resource file.

To append a resource or a service:

  1. In the Resource Repository or Service Repository main configuration windows, click Load. Either the Load Resources or the Load Services dialog box opens.

  2. In the Load Preferences drop-down list, select Append.

  3. In the Load Resources/Load Services dialog box, click next to the File Name field to select the required resource or service XML file. You cannot enter the resource manually. The resources contained in the resource file are shown in a tree view, in the Select Resource Entries pane.

In the tree view, you can expand and collapse each group of nodes and their associated resource or service entries. When you move between these nodes and entries, their details will be displayed to the right of the tree. You can select or deselect all the tree view entries by clicking either Select All or Clear All.

  1. Confirm the load request by clicking OK. If there are duplicate entries in any of the selected tree nodes, the Duplicate Resource Entries dialog box opens. This contains a list of all the duplicate resource or service entries. Here, you should select one of the following options:

  • Overwrite: Check this box to change the selected existing resource or service entry to the newly-loaded resource or service entry.

  • Create As: This enables you to load the duplicate entries into the existing Resource Repository or Service Repository, with a new resource or service entry name. Enter the required new name in the Create As column, alongside the relevant service or resource name.

Note:

Sometimes, an Overwrite check box may not appear alongside a resource name in the Duplicate Resource Entries dialog box. This occurs when the importation procedure recognizes a resource with a duplicate name but of a different resource type.

  1. Click OK in the Duplicate Resource Entries dialog box to confirm the duplicate handling definitions and to start the loading (appending) process.

Alternatively, click Cancel to terminate the duplicate handling process and to return to the Load Resources/Load Services dialog box.

Note:

The Load Preferences feature does not handle resources and services that work with files other than the resources.xml file and the services.xml file. In such cases, you must make sure that you manually copy these other files to where they are needed.

Load Preferences only adds the data that is relevant to the existing resources.xml and services.xml files. Other files are not copied.
